Posted: 06/09/2019

The Higgins team at Colville Estate has been shortlisted as Project Team of the Year at this year’s Construction News Talent Awards.

The CN Talent Awards recognise the people striving to make it a more inclusive industry, as well as the businesses doing outstanding work to improve the construction industry’s reputation and employment practices.

Steve Leakey, Managing Director of Higgins comments, “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award and would like to congratulate the team at Colville Estate for all their hard work and commitment in delivering this award winning project.

“As an organisation we pride ourselves on working in partnership with existing residents and stakeholders to deliver effective tenant and community engagement which is just as important as the bricks and mortar of the project.”

Sitting next to the Regent's Canal in Hoxton, Colville is one of Hackney's biggest building projects. Higgins was appointed by the Council to deliver phase 2a and 2b on the live council estate in close proximity of tenants as part of the extensive masterplan, which will eventually replace 432 of the original homes with over 900 high quality new homes, allowing all of Colville’s social rent tenants to move to a brand new Council home on the estate alongside much-needed additional new Council homes.

Designed by Karakusevic Carson Architects, Higgins has delivered 70  brand new social rent Council homes for existing residents who had been living in post War properties that were in a state of disrepair as well as six Shared Ownership homes, 129 sqm of commercial units  and 40 private sale homes which has helped pay for the new social housing in the absence of any government funding.

The winners will be announced on 20th November 2019.
