Colville Estate has been shortlisted in two categories at the annual New London Architecture Awards. Spanning 14 categories, it has been recognised in the People’s Choice Award for Housing and Mayor’s Prize.
The awards recognise the very best new and proposed architecture, planning and development in the capital. The Housing category is open to multi-unit residential schemes of any tenure, from social housing to PRS to prime resi and highlights schemes that have created exemplary new places for people to live.
In conjunction with the London Festival of Architecture, Londoners were invited to select their favourite from the shortlist for the People’s Choice Award.
The winners will be announced on 3rd July and all winning as well as shortlisted projects will be part of an exhibition at the NLA Galleries at The Building Centre, WC1E starting this summer.
Sitting next to the Regent's Canal in Hoxton, Colville is one of Hackney's biggest building projects. Higgins was appointed by the Council to deliver phase 2a and 2b on the live council estate in close proximity of tenants as part of the extensive masterplan, which will eventually replace 432 of the original homes with over 900 high quality new homes, allowing all of Colville’s social rent tenants to move to a brand new Council home on the estate alongside much-needed additional new Council homes.
Designed by Karakusevic Carson Architects, Higgins has delivered 70 brand new social rent Council homes for existing residents who had been living in post War properties that were in a state of disrepair as well as six Shared Ownership homes, 129 sqm of commercial units and 40 private sale homes which has helped pay for the new social housing in the absence of any government funding.
