35 builders, sub-contractors, apprentices and office staff turned pink for ‘Wear It Pink’ Day as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As well as carrying out their usual days’ work, £1,000 was raised through a cake sale and games for such a worthwhile cause.
Every year, Wear It Pink raises around £2 million during Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now. The charity is dedicated to funding research into this devastating disease and believes that if everyone acts now, by 2050, no one will die from breast cancer.
Paul Cooke, New Business and CSR Director at Higgins Construction continues, “Working with local communities is at the heart of what we do as a business and we are delighted that our staff at King Square was able to support such a fantastic charity.”
Higgins has been contracted by Islington Council to carry out the King Square Estate development and regeneration scheme, which includes the construction of six new blocks delivering 140 homes - 98 affordable dwellings (93 for social rent and five shared ownership) and 42 private residential for sale. Other notable redevelopment works include the refurbishment of the community nursery at Rahere House, creating communal storage areas, estate landscaping and public realm improvements.
