Higgins Construction/Group plc are supporting Eastbury Community School’s bid to become World Cup champions at this month’s Futsal World Cup in Croatia. The team, which is made up of students aged 15 to 17, is set to become the first school to represent England twice at the Futsal World Cup.
The Barking school were the country’s representative at the 2014 tournament where they finished 14th overall. Having won the national Futsal championships for the second consecutive year, Eastbury have earned the right to take part again.
Wayne Lloyd, teacher and coach at Eastbury Community School comments, “We are extremely grateful to Higgins for their generous sponsorship which has helped us massively. The financial burden an event like this places on a school in phenomenal and it is through sponsorship such as the one from Higgins, which allows us to give the team a change in a lifetime and take part in the tournament.
“The impact the last tournament had on the lives of the students was remarkable. We currently have seven from the last squad playing professional and semi-professional football and it is no question that their experiences in Sardinia will have helped them towards this. This makes Higgins support even more valuable.”
Paul Cooke, New Business Director for Higgins Construction comments, “We are delighted once again to be sponsoring one of the training kits for the squad. The sport is a relatively new one in this country and we were delighted to see the team do so well at the last World Cup. It’s every child’s dream to represent their country and we wish them all the best in the tournament.”
The Championship will take place in the city of Poreč, Croatia, in April. The competition brings together secondary school students from 22 countries from all over the world. England have been drawn in Group B and face Turkey, Belgium FC, Slovakia, Armenia and Slovenia.
