Work is underway on phase two of the Central Chelmsford site.Higgins Construction PLC has been appointed by Genesis Housing Association as the principle contractor for the design and construction of 386 high quality homes, commercial space, retails units and a two level basement car park in the heart of Chelmsford.
Tony Millidge, Construction Director of Higgins Construction said, “We are delighted to be working with Genesis Housing Association on such an important project for Chelmsford. As a company we are keen to ensure that we forge positive relationships with the local community during construction as well as strong links with the local businesses. We recently held a Meet the Contractor event, which allowed residents and business members to view plans and ask any questions about the development.
“We are also extremely committed to taking on local labour and will be creating opportunities for local people through our training and apprenticeship schemes.”
The Central Chelmsford development is a triangular site bounded by two main roads to the north and east with a railway viaduct to the south and west. The development comprises a series of medium-rise blocks and a 14-storey taller building to create private, social rent, shared ownership homes and extra care accommodation. The re-planned buildings and landscaped open spaces form an attractive environment, which enhances the connections between existing key areas of Chelmsford.
David Doherty, Genesis Development Manager for City Park West said: “We have had unprecedented interested in phase one with nearly all units sold or rented. So we are delighted that works for phase two of this vibrant new community at the heart of Chelmsford are underway.
City Park West has transformed the area with sensitively restored commercial space, accessible parks and an innovative fusion of old and new architecture. Phase two will deliver hundreds of much needed new homes to the area that will be available for rent, private sale and shared ownership.”
Work is anticipated to be completed towards the end of 2018.
