Higgins Construction PLC is holding a cycle safety event for the local community at our Sutherland Road site in Walthamstow on Wednesday 21st October from 3pm to 6pm.
The event will give cyclists of all ages the chance to learn more about road safety and even have the opportunity to get inside a Higgins construction lorry to experience the blinds spots where a cyclist is most at risk.
Julie Brooks, Environmental Manager for Higgins Construction comments, “Safety on our roads is of paramount importance to Higgins Construction and we are pleased to have been accredited by FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) for improved fleet activity and safety in the UK.
“The community of Waltham Forest is extremely committed to cycling, having been successful in its bid to Transport for London for £30million to fund a mini Holland cycling programme. We hope our cycling safety event will continue to add to the importance of pedal power in the area and promote it as a safe and enjoyable way to get around.”
As well as promoting cycle safety the Metropolitan Police will be available at the event for bicycle registration and security advice. Mamachari, the local bicycle shop will also be present to provide guidance on safety and merchandise including ‘Bike Doctor’ (safety checks and bike repairs). Free refreshments will be supplied by Wood Street Coffee Blackhorse Workshop.
As part of the work on site Higgins Construction will construct four separate buildings providing 59 new homes along with parking, shared communal gardens and a health centre. The development will offer affordable home ownership to local residents, with 42 of the properties available for shared ownership. The remaining 17 homes will be available for affordable rent.
The event will be held at Sutherland Road, Walthamstow, London E17 6BH (next to Blackhorse workshop) on Wednesday 21st October from 3pm to 6pm.
