Higgins Construction is working in partnership with Affinity Sutton on the former Gala Bingo hall site in Hove to create 35 new build mixed tenure flats, including a doctors surgery, pharmacy and two commercial units.
This site is situated next to a school and works have been programmed to coincide with school holidays, to minimise disruption. To ensure that the new homes are part of the local area from the very beginning, Higgins Construction ran a naming competition with the school for the children to name the new development following demolition of the bingo hall, giving them the opportunity to be involved in the process.
The winning name is - ‘Friese Greene House’ in recognition of local portrait photographer William Friese-Greene (1855-1921) who was credited by many as the inventor of cinematography.
“We were delighted with the selection of names put forward. Some of the children’s ideas were absolutely fantastic and clearly a lot of careful thought went into them.”
