Previously known as the Market Estate, residents campaigned for its regeneration and development and celebrated its completion with a summer event funded by Higgins Construction, Southern Housing Group and Islington Council.
Higgins Construction was the construction partner to Southern Housing Group and
following the demolition and redevelopment it is now known as Parkside Place. This mixed-use neighbourhood of 421 homes faces the radically transformed Caledonian Park, where almost £1 million has been invested to create new play areas for children, new gardens and an impressive boulevard entrance improving accessibility for the community and creating an enhanced setting for the Grade 2 listed iconic clocktower.
“It is fantastic to be here today to celebrate the transformation that has taken place. The Park is now a much more accessible and welcoming place for the community to enjoy. We hope it will be a real asset for the neighbourhood and that the new play areas will fire the imaginations of children for generations to come. It has been a long road but I am delighted to say it has been a road well-travelled.”
The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Barry Edwards attended the event and helped to bury a time capsule prepared by residents.
