St Johns School

The construction of a new two-storey, six-form entry secondary school comprising 7,880m² of building plus associated facilities (including a new access road, playing fields, hard surface courts and car parking) on the current school’s existing playing fields.

The location, layout and design of the new school was carefully considered to take advantage of its aspect and ground levels. In addition, existing natural features (trees and ponds) were protected, enhanced and integrated into the design.

The new school was part of a joint venture proposal comprising the residential redevelopment of the current school buildings by Higgins Homes PLC, delivering 149 new mixed tenure dwellings, generating a land receipt for Essex County Council, which fully funded the construction of the new school.
