Merton Care Homes, Surrey

Redevelopment of an existing extra care facility for Merton Priory Care in Merton, Surrey. The development provided 3 new extra care blocks (The Oaks, Gresham House and Doliffe Close) along with associated common areas and external landscaping. The design for this redevelopment was completed by PRP Architects with Baily Garner acting as Employer’s Agent.

The Oaks block included the demolition of the existing outdated sheltered housing on site and the development of 51 extra care supported apartments with associated common areas, hard and soft landscaping, drainage and mains services.

Gresham House included the demolition of the existing outdated sheltered housing on site and the development of 18 extra care apartments with associated ancillary accommodation, soft landscaping, drainage and mains services.

Dolliffe Close included the demolition of the existing outdated sheltered housing on site and the development of 23 extra care supported houses and 18 apartments for assisted living, with associated ancillary accommodation and 2 general needs apartments, hard and soft landscaping, drainage and mains services.

All apartments as part of this development were self-contained and had their own kitchen and showers and are warden controlled. There are also communal facilities on site, which include a communal lounge, kitchen and staff rooms.

This development was shortlisted under the HAPPI Design Award category at the Housing Design Awards 2012.
