Mayor of Hackney visits Wimbourne Street to view progress

This week we welcomed the Mayor of Hackney, Caroline Woodley to Wimbourne Street to show her the progress being made to deliver 59 mixed tenure apartments.

Using modular construction methods, the development is providing an equal third social rented, affordable and private sale homes across two linear buildings, along with a new café/commercial space, a new playground, relocation of car parking and new landscaped areas.

Situated on the corner of Wimbourne Street and New North Road, residents will enjoy views over Shoreditch Park to the east and a landscaped entrance courtyard, which will create an attractive buffer to New North Road.

Wimbourne Street, along with Buckland Street, form a key part of Hackney Council’s Housing Supply Programme, developing underused infill sites within existing estates to create much needed affordable housing.

Buckland Street is providing 54 mixed tenure apartments within a trio of six storey villa blocks, each interlocked with podiums at ground level. The development will also include the creation of a children’s play area, refurbishment, and relocation of the existing MUGA, commercial spaces and improvements to the public open space for use by the wider community.

The designs of both developments have been shaped by local residents following more than two years of consultation, and will provide 44 new council homes, prioritised for tenants living near the development whose current homes don’t meet their needs.
