On Friday 29th July Gateway Housing Association, Higgins Construction and PRP celebrated with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets finishing the frame to a new care facility in East London. The formalities were carried out by Councillor Abdul Asad & Gateway’s Chief Executive, Sheron Carter, by planting the first tree in the roof top planters.
The project has involved the demolition of a 1960’s four storey care home which was decommissioned and the construction of a six storey extra care facility which will consist of 40 self contained flats plus communal areas.
Once completed, the project will offer residents a full independent living space with 24 hour care staff on hand. All flats within the scheme will be wheelchair accessible with level access shower rooms to allow residents to have a degree of independence. There will also be number of communal facilities including an activities room, communal lounge, garden, hairdressing salon and two roof top terraces with stunning views across London.
The development includes a number of sustainable features: Photovoltaic arrays on the roof to generate electricity from the sun’s energy; Green Roof to reduce the amount of water run-off into the existing storm drains and to enhance bio-diversity of the area by encouraging pollinating insects.Back to latest news
