Higgins works closely with local organisations to help communities
access the employment and training opportunities which we
can provide through our construction work. In fact, we pioneered
some of the first initiatives in the 1990s for apprentices
on the Angell
Town Estate in Brixton.
We now aim to maximise opportunities and promote training
for local people on every regeneration project. We also aim
to provide permanent positions beyond the initial schemes.
Our success is judged by targets, which we often exceed. On
average, we provide employment and training opportunities
to represent our workforces on sites. We are proud however,
to report that this has been known to represent as much as
half (48%) on our most successful initiatives.
All this success is achieved by working very closely with
organisations such as Lewisham CRS, Woman Education and Building,
Jobs Opportunities and Support, GLAAB, PATH, Building Partnerships
and direct with many of our regeneration partners in the London
borough authorities. We have also been able to secure the
support of some very enthusiastic subcontractors through the
construction supply chain.
